Religion

Our religion program focuses on biblical and theological study and offers a full array of courses in the study of the biblical text, the opportunity to study the biblical languages, and a rich variety of courses in theology and ethics.

Biblical Studies Emphasis

The Biblical Studies emphasis provides in depth study of the Bible, focused on the interpretation and implications of biblical texts.

In addition to completing the core religion requirements, students should complete the following courses:

  • REL 320 Jesus and the Gospels
  • REL 330 Paul and his Letters
  • REL 335 Biblical Narratives
  • REL 431 Prophets
  • REL 310 Contemporary Theologies or REL 350 God, Suffering and Evil (upper level Theology)
  • REL 350 God, Suffering and Evil or REL 445 Religion, Peace and Justice (upper level Ethics)
  • REL 375 Bible, Gender and Culture (upper level comparative or cultural)
  • Complete Biblical Languages minor
  • OPTIONAL: Jezreel Expedition (does not count toward major requirements)
  • PHIL 211 should be taken as General Education Outcome 4
