Religion

Our religion program focuses on biblical and theological study and offers a full array of courses in the study of the biblical text, the opportunity to study the biblical languages, and a rich variety of courses in theology and ethics.

Social Justice Emphasis

The social justice emphasis provides in depth study of theological and ethical issues, focused on theological questions, justice issues, and action in the world.In addition to completing the core religion requirements, students should complete the following courses:

  • REL 310 Contemporary Theologies
  • REL 340 Women and Religion
  • REL 350 God, Suffering and Evil
  • REL 375 Bible, Gender and Culture
  • REL 445 Religion, Peace and Justice
  • REL 335 Biblical Narratives or 431 Prophets (upper level OT)
  • REL 320 Jesus and the Gospels or 330 Paul and his Letters (upper level NT)
  • OPTIONAL: REL 492 Religion Internship focused on social justice (does not count toward major requirements)
  • OPTIONAL: Complete Ethics minor
  • PHIL 241, PHIL 316 or PHIL 317 should be taken as General Education Outcome 4
