SOAR Reading Program

Each year the University’s Summer Reading Committee selects a book for members of the UE community to read over the summer. Recent selections have included “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini; “Half the Sky” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn; and “The Boy Who Harnassed the Wind” by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. The selection for summer 2014 will occur in the spring and be posted to this webpage. Students will also receive information about the program via email.

Incoming freshmen are asked to read the current selection and write an essay before arriving for Welcome Week in August. During Welcome Week, students will join small groups of students and University faculty/staff for a discussion of the book. Other University events surrounding the book may also be included in this program.

Questions can be referred to the chair of the Summer Reading Program, Dr. Lora Becker at 812-488-2520.
