Doctor of Physical Therapy Transfer Students

Students with Bachelor's Degrees beginning DPT program in Summer 2015.

Academic Scholarship*

Transfer students who are admitted into the DPT program will receive a UE Academic Scholarship worth $10,000 annually. The award will be available for up to three academic years. One half of the annual award ($5,000) will be applied each fall and spring semester, beginning in the fall of 2015. This award also applies to students who earned their BS degree from UE but did not immediately continue into the DPT program in the summer following graduation from UE.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Although filing the FAFSA is not a requirement for receiving the University of Evansville Scholarship, it must be filed annually to establish eligibility for both the Federal Direct Loan and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan programs. File the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. The University of Evansville’s FAFSA school code is 001795.

2014-15 FAFSA: This FAFSA governs federal loan eligibility for summer 2015.

Already filed the 2014-15 FAFSA? Students who have already filed the 2014-15 FAFSA and are currently using federal aid to complete their bachelor’s degrees should NOT make any changes to their current FAFSA. UE can assist with FAFSA corrections immediately following graduation. If you have filed the 2014-15 FAFSA, please add UE’s code and re-submit the correction so we may receive the results.

2015-16 FAFSA: The FAFSA must be filed annually to establish federal loan eligibility for each new academic year. The 2015-16 FAFSA will become available after January 1, 2015. The 2015-16 academic year begins in the fall semester August 2015.

Students entering as graduate students are considered independent students and should complete their 2015-16 FAFSAs listing UE’s school code 001795 and answer the questions on the FAFSA as shown below:

Graduate Students
Will you have your first bachelor’s degree before July 1? Yes
When you begin the school year, what will be your grade level? 1st year graduate/professional
When you begin the school year, what degree or certificate will you be working on? Graduate or professional degree
At the beginning of the school year, will you be working on a master’s or doctorate program? Yes

The Federal Direct Loan Program

The Federal Direct Stafford Loan typically has the best terms of all educational loan options available for the DPT program. Graduate students have an annual eligibility of $20,500, which starts each August and runs through the following summer. For graduate students, the loan is "unsubsidized," meaning that interest will accrue on the principal balance during college at the current fixed rate of 6.21 percent. Repayment begins six-months after college.

In the spring of 2015, the UE Office of Financial Aid will communicate directly with students who plan to begin the DPT program in the summer of 2015, offering assistance and instructions to establish eligibility for the Direct Loan. Each fall semester, graduate students begin anew to use funding from their annual eligibility of $20,500. If the student exhausts the entire $20,500 during the fall/spring terms, another type of loan would need to be used for the trailing summer term.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

Students are required to first exhaust their annual eligibility in the Federal Direct Loan before requesting funds through the Graduate PLUS Loan. The Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan allows credit-worthy students to borrow in their own name, in an amount that may cover the entire Cost of Attendance, including books and living expenses. The Graduate PLUS Loan allows for deferred repayment, although interest will accrue during college.

Private Educational loans

Many educational lenders offer loans in the student's name with repayment deferred until after graduation. Most lenders require a credit-worthy cosigner and have variable interest rates. See http://www.elmselect.com/Results/Index for assistance with comparing private loans.
