Freshmen Merit Scholarships for Fall 2013
Merit scholarships are offered to students based upon the information gathered from the University of Evansville Application for Admission and Scholarship. UE has two application deadlines: Early Action is December 3, 2012, and Regular Action is February 1, 2013.
The following awards are for first time, domestic, full-time freshmen in traditional undergraduate degree programs who will enter UE in Fall 2013. A student may receive only one of the awards listed in purple. The scholarship of highest value will be awarded when the student qualifies for more than one. Additional need-based assistance may be added to your merit-based award, as well as awards from Groups A, B, and C.
Recipients will be awarded the merit scholarship of highest value for which they qualify.
Dean's Scholarship ($18,000 per year)
- Recipients will have a high school GPA of 4.0 (A average) or greater in their academic courses and score 29 or higher on the ACT or 1860 or higher on the SAT.
- Candidates must visit campus by April 6, 2013.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 3.0.
Trustee Scholarship ($19,000 to full tuition)*
- Dean's Scholarship recipients who apply by December 3, 2012, will be invited to compete for a Trustee Scholarship at a University-sponsored scholarship day event.
- Dean's Scholarship recipients who apply after December 3, 2012, will be invited to compete on a space-available basis.
Performing Arts Scholarships ($7,000 to $16,000 per year)*
- Auditions are required for students applying to the Departments of Music or Theatre.
- Award decisions are based on an audition and the student's high school record: GPA, difficulty of courses, SAT or ACT scores.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 2.5.
* Trustee and Performing Arts scholarships are awarded on a limited and competitive basis.
National Merit, National Achievement, and National Hispanic Scholar Awards ($20,000 to full-tuition)
- For National Merit Scholar semifinalists, National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars, and National Achievement Scholar semifinalists, the UE scholarship will be worth $20,000 annually.
- National Merit Scholar finalists and National Achievement Scholar finalists who become finalists will receive a full-tuition scholarship annually if they list UE as their college choice with the National Merit Corporation by the April 2013 deadline.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 3.0.
Academic Scholarship ($12,500 to $16,000 per year)
- Award decisions are based on the student high school record: GPA, difficulty of courses, SAT or ACT scores.
- Students with a GPA of 3.5 in academic courses and a score of 24 on the ACT or 1550 on the SAT would typically qualify for an academic scholarship.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 2.5.
William L. Ridgway Award ($16,000 to $18,000 per year)

Candidates must be dependent students who maintain permanent residence in Vanderburgh County or who will graduate from an accredited high school located in Vanderburgh County.
- Students with a GPA of 3.7 in academic courses and a score of 26 on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT will typically receive $16,000.
- Students with a GPA of 4.0 in academic courses and a score of 27 on the ACT or 1770 on the SAT will typically receive $18,000.
- Students are not required to live on campus.
- Students must visit campus by April 6, 2013.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 2.5.
National Need for Nurses Scholarship ($16,000 to $18,000 per year)

Candidates must be directly admitted to UE's nursing program and have the following academic profile:
- Students with a GPA of 3.7 in academic courses and a score of 26 on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT will typically receive $16,000.
- Students with a GPA of 4.0 in academic courses and a score of 27 on the ACT or 1770 on the SAT will typically receive $18,000.
- Students must visit campus by April 6, 2013.
- Students must continue to major in nursing at the University of Evansville.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 2.5.
University of Evansville Scouting Scholarship ($13,000 to $18,000 per year)

Candidates must have earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout, Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award, Sea Scouting Quartermaster Award, American Heritage Girls Stars and Stripes Award, or Venturing Silver Award.
- Students with a GPA of 3.5 in academic courses and a score of 24 on the ACT or 1550 on the SAT will typically receive $13,000.
- Students with a GPA of 3.7 in academic courses and a score of 26 on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT will typically receive $16,000.
- Students with a GPA of 4.0 in academic courses and a score of 27 on the ACT or 1770 on the SAT will typically receive $18,000.
- Students must visit campus by April 6, 2013.
- Renewable with a UE GPA of 2.5.
ACES Award ($7,000 to $9,000 per year)
- Award decisions are based on the student's high school record: GPA and SAT or ACT scores as well as high school and community involvement and potential for academic success.
- Renewable by meeting UE satisfactory academic progress standards.
The preceding awards listed in purple cannot be combined. The scholarship of highest value will be awarded when the student qualifies for more than one.
University of Evansville will calculate a student's GPA by evaluating only core classes and weighting based on academic rigor. All SAT scores include critical reading, mathematics, and writing.
Additional Scholarships
One scholarship from each of the following groups A, B, and C may be added to any University of Evansville freshman scholarship. Students receiving athletic aid or full-tuition scholarships are ineligible for these awards.
Group A
International Baccalaureate Diploma Award ($500 per year)
- Awarded to students who earn the International Baccalaureate diploma.
Legacy Award ($500 per year)
- Awarded to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of UE graduates.
United Methodist Scholarship ($500 per year)
- Awarded if student is an active member of a United Methodist Church as verified by a local church representative.
Group B
Academic Scholar Days
Students who apply prior to December 3, 2012, and who meet select academic criteria, based on high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores will be invited to compete at one of the Academic Scholarship Days listed below. An on-campus visit and participation in a scholastic activity are required. Students who apply after December 3, 2012, will be invited to compete on a space-available basis.
- Davidson Academic Scholarship Day Awards ($500 to $1,500 per year) January 25 or January 26, 2013, depending on academic program area.
- Engineering Scholarship Day Awards ($500 - $1,500 per year) February 2, 2013
- Business Scholarship Days Awards ($500 - $1,500 per year) January 25 - 26, 2013
- Direct Entry Physical Therapy Day Awards ($500 - $1,500 per year) November 19, 2012
Alumni Scholarships ($500 to $1,500 per year)
Applicants will be invited to regional alumni events in select cities in Spring 2013. An interview and written essay are required.
Art Major Scholarships ($1,000 per year)
Applicants who will major in the visual arts may submit a portfolio of work to the Department of Art prior to March 1, 2013.
- Recipients will be selected based on talent.
- Scholarships are renewable with a UE GPA of 2.0 and continued major in art.
Group C
Music Ensemble Participation Grant ($500 per year)
Award is based on an audition with the Department of Music. The audition must be completed by March 20, 2013. It is awarded to non-music majors whose talent qualifies them to participate in band, choir, or orchestra. Renewal requires continued participation in an ensemble.
Manager and Trainer Grants ($1,000 per year)
Awarded at the discretion of UE's athletics manager or trainer to students who assist with UE's NCAA Division I athletics teams.
Other Opportunities
Sibling Scholarship Grant ($1,000 to $1,500 per year)
Awarded to the older UE student when a younger sibling enrolls. The award is $1,500 per year while both students attend UE. Entering twins or triplets each receive $1,000 per year.
Athletic Scholarships
The University of Evansville competes at the NCAA Division I level. All 14 men's and women's sports offer athletic scholarships. Many cannot be combined with merit awards due to NCAA rules. Contact the coach of your sport for more information.
