The College of Education and Health Sciences offers a number of programs that share a commitment to the preparation of competent and caring professionals for the twenty-first century. Programs in the departments of physical therapy, education, nursing and health sciences, and exercise and sport science provide learning experiences to develop knowledge, intellectual and practical skills, and personal and social responsibility. All programs feature supervised field experience - such as internships, clinicals, and student teaching - in appropriate real life settings off campus.
Faculty members in the College of Education and Health Sciences have experience in their fields plus advanced academic preparation. Overview -
The UE School of Education offers the B.S. degree with majors in Elementary Education; Senior High/Junior High/Middle School Education; and All-Grade majors of Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education and Special Education. Additional minor and endorsement areas of study may also be selected. Each area of study leads to teaching licensure in the State of Indiana and in states that hold reciprocal agreements with Indiana.

Overview -
The EXSS department offers seven distinct academic majors: Athletic Training, Clinical Laboratory Science, Applied Exercise Science, Pre-Professional Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Communication and Sport Management.
The Athletic Training major is designed for those individuals who seek certification as an athletic trainer for the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is the accrediting body for many allied health professions including athletic training. The University of Evansville's Athletic Training Educatin Program is accredited by CAAHEP. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the ATC functions as an integral member of the health care team for the physically active. Traditionally, secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, orthopedic surgeons' offices, industrial settings, and professional sports teams have employed certified athletic trainers.
The Clinical Laboratory Science degree prepares students for work under the supervision of a pathologist or other qualified physicain or laboratory director, the various chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic and other medical laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, study and treatment of disease.
The Exercise Science major prepares students for graduate study in areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, wellness, health promotion, nutrition and exercise and sport psychology; as well as preparing students to enter professional schools such as Physical Therapy and Medical School. It also prepares students for careers in preventative and rehabilitative exercise and wellness programs as well as preparing the student to work with relatively healthy populations in developing and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
The Exercise Science major has two tracks, the applied track and the pre-professional track, to meet the academic professional goals of the student. The Applied Track prepares students for a leadership role in a growing number of career opportunities dealing with human health and wellness such as an exercise instructor, personal trainer, strength and conditioning specialist or as a health and wellness professional. In addition, this degree also prepares the student for graduate study in exercise physiology, sport psychology, sport nutrition or biomechanics. The Pre-Professional Track has a strong psychology, sport nutrition or biomechanics. The Pre-Professional Track has a strong science foundation, can be used as a preparation for entry into professional schools such as Physical Therapy, Medical and Podiatry.
The Physical Education/Health major prepares students as future educators on the elementary, middle school, junior high or high school levels. The teacher preparation program provides a structured framework to ensure the student a comprehensive curriculum commensurate with INTASC principles.
The Sport Communication major is a collaborative academic program with the Department of Communications that provides a well-rounded sport communication background, allowing students to focus on broadcast, print or web related areas of specialization. This major provides experiences for students wishing to find employment as a sports information director, sports writer, radio or television reporter/announcer, public address announcer or working in a variety of sport-related website areas.
The Sport Management major is a collaborative academic program with the School of Business, and includes a comprehensive background in management, marketing, and administration. Employment opportunities for students interested on working in a business related area of sports such as a director of athletics, manager of a sporting arena, owner/director of fitness center or other areas of sport management or administration.
In addition to these five majors, the department also has specialized minors in Clinical Exercise Science, Exercise and Sport Psychology, Health, Sport Communication and Sport Management, along with a coaching endorsement.

The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences offers three degree programs: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration.
The nursing major prepares graduates to assume entry-level positions in professional nursing practice. The educational experience provides the graduate the choice to practice in all areas of nursing and in a variety of institutional and community settings.
The Health Services Administration major prepares graduates to assume entry level management positions in a variety of institutional and community settings. The program is designed so that a student may enter and earn both the bachelor's and master's degrees in five years. Persons who already hold an undergraduate degree may enter the master's program and earn the degree part time in approximately two years.
Students in both Nursing and Health Services Administration programs participate in a variety of clinical placements and internships.

Overview -
The Physical Therapy Department offers two degree programs: The entry-level Doctor (DPT) of Physical Therapy degree (6 or 7 years) and the Associate of Science in Physical Therapy Assistance (PTA) (2 years). Both degree programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association. Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants are health care professionals who are responsible for preventing, identifying, and treating movement dysfunction in the patients and clients served, and for promoting optimal physical health and quality of life for the community at large. Both the DPT and PTA programs integrate a strong liberal arts and basic science foundation with the clinical and behavioral sciences unique to physical therapy. As part of their educational preparation, physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students participate in a variety of clinical education internships available in healthcare institutions across the country.
