More Study Abroad
Open your mind and get your passport ready!
At the University of Evansville, we are committed to providing significant cultural and academic experiences abroad. After all, UE's core purpose speaks to the need for students to learn to "engage the world." What better first step toward engaging the world in a meaningful way than through a challenging, structured, affordable, and unforgettable term abroad? With timely planning and the appropriate guidance and support of family, faculty, academic advisors, and the study abroad office staff, your journey begins.
Now boarding for the United Kingdom
For the majority of our students, the first opportunity to live and study in another culture comes through a semester or summer program at our British campus, Harlaxton College. The UE Harlaxton Experience is like no other and we encourage all students to share in it.
More opportunities; more discoveries; more destinations
Opportunities for further cultural discovery, language immersion, international endeavors, and global engagement are many.
International Education with UE Faculty
Each year, University of Evansville faculty lead short term programs abroad for smaller groups of students to locations as diverse as China, Argentina, and Jamaica. Some of these programs are designed specifically for students in a particular major (e.g. Health Service Administration in Eastern Europe; Engineering in the Dominican Republic), but many others are cross-disciplinary in nature (e.g., Focus on Asia in China; Cultural Immersion in Trinidad). The smaller number of program participants combined with the passion and commitment of the UE faculty leaders offer exceptionally well-guided glimpses into the complexities of your place in the world.
Don't miss your connection—UE partners in international education
Through our approved external partners program, in any given semester University of Evansville foreign language majors are likely to be found hard at work perfecting language skills in Africa, Asia, Europe, or South America; International Studies majors will be seen carrying out research in locations such as Egypt or Argentina; Theatre majors will be encountered following their personal voyage of discovery from an academic base in Australia or Mexico, Italy or Ireland. The list goes on. Partner programs and student participation in them are approved only after a careful and comprehensive review process. In this way UE ensures that all of our students abroad are learning in a context that emphasizes academics, safety, cultural awareness, and personal growth.
Study for starters, and then explore educational experiences outside the classroom
Education abroad with a primarily experiential emphasis (volunteer or service learning placements, internship placements, clinical placements, for example) are arranged in close coordination with academic advisors in a specific academic department or major, such as Physical Therapy, Health Services Administration, or Global Business.
In each case, following the UE guidelines will ensure that credits are transferable, available financial resources are explored, and that guidance is given where necessary and appropriate.
How do you get started?
The Office of Study Abroad is a good starting place for UE students to gather information about the process and about the program (or programs!) abroad that will provide the best fit. Because we firmly believe that a study abroad experience is essentially different from a sightseeing trip, the study abroad staff also organizes orientations, pre-departure programming, re-entry activities, and other support necessary for students seeking to take fullest advantage of what they see, do, learn, and become while away from our home campus. At the same time, we expect students to be involved fully in every aspect of the process. We cannot lead you step by step through the entire experience abroad, but we help to show the way ... and give a gentle push in the right direction when needed.
