Transfer Student Admission Guidelines

The University of Evansville defines transfer students as those who have graduated from high school or received their GED and have enrolled at a college or university, regardless of credit hours earned. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis (no specific deadline) and students are welcome to apply for either the fall or the spring semester.

Your application for admission will be carefully reviewed to determine your level of academic preparation and your potential for success at the University of Evansville. In addition, involvement in activities associated with high school, college, and the community in which you live is important.

To be considered for admission your cumulative college grade point average should be at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, your high school transcript will be reviewed for strength of curriculum and academic performance. Comments from the Dean of Student Recommendation Form, included with the application for admission, will also be taken into consideration. You may supplement your application with a personal statement letter.

What if I am applying to the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program?

Applications to this professional program are accepted beginning in August of the academic year prior to the anticipated date of entry. Interviews for qualified candidates will begin in October. Entry into the professional program is competitive and a special application and interview are required. Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. Once 40 seats are filled, further qualified applicants will be placed on an alternate list.

What do I need to do to be considered for financial aid and scholarships?

For consideration of need based financial aid, you should file the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA and request the results to be sent to the University of Evansville. UE's FAFSA code is 001795. It is best to file your FAFSA by March 1. This is especially true for Indiana residents to receive maximum financial aid consideration. The University recommends that you file your FAFSA electronically. To do so, first you need to obtain your PIN number by going to www.pin.ed.gov. Once the PIN is established, you can then complete the online FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Traditional paper FAFSA forms are available from the Office of Financial Aid and at most college financial aid offices and high school guidance offices.

Transfer students are eligible for scholarships provided they are full-time students (12 credit hours or more per semester). One should apply for these scholarships through the application for admission. Listed below are transfer student scholarships.

University of Evansville Academic Scholarship - You must have a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA for college-level work to be considered for the Academic Scholarship. The scholarship ranges from $6,500 to $10,000 each academic year. Auditions and portfolio presentations are required for students majoring in art, music or theatre. Talent may influence the amount of the merit scholarship. If you have not scheduled an audition or portfolio presentation, please contact the Office of Admission for assistance.
Cultural Diversity Award - Students must have a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA for college-level work to be considered for the Cultural Diversity Award. The scholarship ranges from $6,500 to $10,000 per academic year. Awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity. Available to all students with selection based upon a record of achievement, student leadership, and community involvement.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship (honor society for community colleges and two-year institutions.) - This award is valued at $10,500 per year for members who are in good standing. A photocopy of your Phi Theta Kappa membership certificate is also required.

Students who qualify for more than one of these awards will automatically receive the one of highest value. Students are eligible for one award only.

The following scholarships may be added on to any University of Evansville merit aid. Students receiving full-tuition scholarships are ineligible for these awards. Students may receive either the Legacy Award or the United Methodist Scholarship if eligible for both.

University of Evansville Legacy Award - This award, valued at $500 per year, is for children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of UE graduates.
United Methodist Scholarship - This award is worth $500 per year for students who attend and are confirmed members of a United Methodist Church.

How will my courses transfer?

Each applicant's circumstances will vary, but one important issue to all transfer students is the evaluation of transfer credit. Once you are admitted, we will notify you of exactly how many hours will transfer, how many will apply toward graduation, and how many you need to complete your degree. Most courses in which you have earned at least a grade of 'C,' will transfer to UE.

How many hours must I earn to graduate from UE?

You must earn a minimum of 63 credit hours at UE in order to graduate.

What about orientation, registration, housing, meal plans, etc.?

Once you are admitted and have submitted your $300 reservation deposit, you will receive a packet which includes applications for housing and meal plans, your health card, and information about STAR (Student Transfer Advising and Registration). STAR is held in January for students enrolling for the spring semester and in June or August for students enrolling for the fall semester. At STAR you will take any necessary placement tests, meet current students and administrators to learn more about UE, and meet with a faculty advisor who will assist you in course selection and registration.

Can I talk with a current student who transferred to the University of Evansville?

Sometimes it's nice to talk with someone who has "been there, done that." If you would like to communicate with a current student who transferred to UE, e-mail Karen Bayles at kb94@evansville.edu. She will forward your e-mail to a transfer student for a response.

What is the timeline from applying to eventually becoming a UE student?

Apply for admission & request required materials to be sent to the Office of Admission, attention: Transfer Admission.
Once your file is complete, you will receive a telephone call or e-mail to confirm your admission status.
Your file will be taken to the Office of the Registrar for a review of transfer credits.
Your credentials will be evaluated and considered for transfer scholarships.
You will receive an official acceptance letter from the University. It will indicate if you were awarded a scholarship and provide an Admitted Student Handbook which includes your transfer credit report, information about the $300 reservation deposit, orientation, registration (STAR), and campus housing.
Once you submit your $300 nonrefundable reservation deposit to the Office of Admission, a packet will be sent to you with details about how to sign up for orientation and registration (STAR), campus housing and meal plans. Also in the packet will be a health card to record your immunizations and results from a recent physical examination as well as proof of health insurance (health card required for full-time students only).
Orientation and registration (STAR) for students enrolling for fall is offered twice, in mid-June and the end of August, right before classes begin. For students enrolling in the spring, STAR is offered in January right before classes begin. The day starts at 8:00 a.m. and concludes about 4:00 p.m.
Fall semester classes typically begin the last Wednesday in August and spring semester classes typically begin on the first Monday in January after the New Year.
