The Jennings Legacy

Evansville, Ind. — University of Evansville President Stephen G. Jennings has announced to the Board of Trustees and to the campus community his plans to retire effective May 31, 2010.
On June 1, 2001, he became the University of Evansville’s 22nd president after serving as president of three other institutions since 1983: Oklahoma City University, Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and the College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri.
During his tenure, UE has undertaken the largest capital campaign in the University’s history. That effort has already led to the construction of the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration building, the first LEED®-certified “green” building in Vanderburgh County, as well as the recently opened, national award winning William L. Ridgway University Center, now the center of campus life.
That grand opening brought Jennings’ career full-circle, having started working in the student life office during his years as an undergraduate at Trinity University, continuing in his first job out of graduate school, as the director of student activities at Southern Methodist University in 1970.
Throughout this section of the Web site you can read more about the Jennings Legacy, as well as walk down memory lane with him through photographs and comments from others. You can extend your thanks and best wishes to Steve and Sally Jennings as they prepare to embark on their last year at UE, followed by the joys of retirement.
