Walnut Plaza is a bustling avenue on the UE campus and a thoroughfare for the city. Improvements to this streetscape include aesthetic enhancements as well as increased safety for its considerable pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The entire campus is an environment that promotes personal growth and reflection about how to live a rich and meaningful life. Creating such an environment requires attention to all details that support daily campus life including our campus streetscapes.
The Walnut Plaza reinvigorated project will improve pedestrian safety while crossing Walnut Avenue; enhance the streetscape on Walnut Avenue between Rotherwood Avenue and Weinbach Avenue. The project will include landscaping aesthetic enhancements, increased pedestrian and vehicular safety, and ADA improvements. It is intended to promote UE’s commitment to providing a strong and connected campus community that fosters personal transformation by increasing opportunities for self-discovery, intellectual and physical growth.
In its current condition Walnut Street acts as a barrier between the academic and athletic portions of campus which hinders student satisfaction and affinity. With the proposed Walnut Street Plaza these improvements will foster a close-knit campus community and provide a safer walkway for students, employees and neighborhood residents.
