University of Evansville Plans International Education Week Events

The University of Evansville will celebrate International Education Week (November 17 – 21) with several activities and events that are open to the public. The diverse group of international students at UE represents 55 countries from around the world, and will play an active part in many of the events listed below:

Monday, November 17

7:00 p.m., Eykamp Hall, Ridgway University Center

Featured Speaker

Ossama Bahloul, imam of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, will discuss “Religion and Politics in the United States and Abroad”.

This lecture is free and open to the public.

 

Tuesday, November 18

12:15 p.m., Smythe Lecture Hall, Room 170, Schroeder School of Business Building

Panel Discussion: “Jews, Christians, and Muslims: How Can We Know Peace?”

Panelists: Ossama Bahloul, imam of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro; Dianne Oliver, UE professor of religion; and Gary Mazo, rabbi at Temple Adath B’nai Israel. Moderator: UE chaplain Tamara Gieselman.

This lecture is free and open to the public. Bring a brown bag lunch.

 

7:00 p.m., Eykamp Hall, Room 252, Ridgway University Center

Panel Discussion: “CoCoDA in El Salvador: Community to Comunidad.”

Panelists: Ivan Villasboa, executive director of CoCoDA in El Salvador; Diana Rodriguez Quevedo, UE assistant professor of Spanish; Bill Hemminger, chair of UE’s English Department; and Marissa Mitchell, UE coordinator of short term programs abroad.

This event is free and open to the public.

 

Friday, November 21

5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Ridgway University Center

UE’s annual International Bazaar

At this event, which benefits UNICEF, attendees can experience the cultures and foods from countries represented by UE students. In addition to all-you-can-eat global cuisine, there will be entertainment, interactive cultural booths, and more. Guests can also add personal wishes to a Peace Wall.

This family-friendly event is open to the public. General admission is $5. Entrance for UE students and children five and under is free.
