Assistant Professor of Finance Yasser Alhenawi and Assistant Professor of Marketing Atefeh Yazdanparast have had their paper, “Personality Traits and Financial Decision Making,” accepted for presentation at the Academy of Financial Services 28th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in October. This paper is an interdisciplinary approach to analyze financial decision-making at the household level by focusing on the relationship between personality traits and individuals’ financial decision-making process.

The Society of Biblical Literature recently announced the launch of its Bible Odyssey website (www.bibleodyssey.com). The world's leading scholars share the latest historical and literary research on people, places and passages of the Bible at this website. UE Associate Professor of Archaeology and co-director of the Jezreel Expedition Jennie Ebeling serves on the editorial board of Bible Odyssey. The Jezreel Expedition, an archeological dig in northern Israel, is featured on the bibleodyssey.com homepage.

University of Evansville Civil Engineering Students Win 2014 NCEES Engineering Award for Fairfield Reservoir and Dam Project

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) has named the University of Evansville as one of only six colleges nationally to receive a 2014 NCEES Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education. UE’s Civil Engineering Program in the College of Engineering and Computer Science will receive $7,500 as a winner of the competition.

Amy Hall, University of Evansville Nursing Department chair and professor of nursing, has received the Red Cross Hero of the Year Award along with other members of the Disaster Action Team. The award was given on May 15.

University of Evansville faculty members Joyce Stamm, associate professor of biology, and Adam Salminen, associate professor of mathematics, have secured a five-year, $610,600 grant through the National Science Foundation’s S-STEM (Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program to assist students in science and mathematics. The grant is one of about 90 awarded from the 436 proposals submitted to the S-STEM program, and is the largest faculty grant in school history.

Dale Edwards, professor and chair of the Department of Biology at the University of Evansville, has published a new book, Mites of Freshwater Mollusks. Edwards co-authored the book with his colleague Malcolm Vidrine, a retired professor of biology at Louisiana State University-Eunice.

The University of Evansville had an excellent showing in this year’s Arts Awards, presented by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. Faculty members and student performers in the Department of Music won two of the annual Arts Awards: Dennis Malfatti, associate professor of music and director of choral activities, was named Arts Educator of the Year, while UE Opera under the direction of Jon Truitt, associate professor of music, received the Ensemble of the Year Award. In addition, UE trustee Bob Jones and his wife, Lisa, were named Arts Advocates of the Year.

The University of Evansville Department of Theatre has received a grant from the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana for 1,200 free tickets for high school students in Vanderburgh County. The Department of Theatre will hold four special morning matinees specifically for high school freshmen studying Romeo and Juliet in English class. The performances are at 9 a.m. in Shanklin Theatre, Apr. 15 through 18.
