Events include:
Basketball Playing Robots at UE
The students will compete against teams from nearly 40 other colleges and universities in a variety of categories. The two students are Ted Morse who has constructed SQUARM (Squeek on an Advanced Reduced Instruction Set Computing Machine) and Evan Hallam who has constructed the IEEE Basketball Playing Robot. Both robots play basketball by shooting ping pong balls through a hoop. Programmed on different computer operating platforms, the robots have been designed to follow a white line to a rebound box where they are loaded for shooting. Next, they move into shooting range and shoot the ping pong balls. With a sure trajectory, the balls zoom out of the tray where they are loaded into a hoop at the opposite end of the "court," a black box built to mimic what they will face in the competition set up. (Pictured: Hallam's robot shoots three balls in succession all zooming into the net at the end of the court.) |
