Martin Luther King Jr. Day Activities and Open House

On Monday, January 19, the University of Evansville will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a full slate of activities, including a re-enactment of the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington, D.C. (pictured is the 2008 re-enactment march)

'Lift Ev'ry Voice' - recognizing the voices of the past, present, and future - will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a theatrical performance by UE's Black Student Union, the 21st annual re-enactment will begin at 1:00 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m., Dorothy C. Yancy, noted historian and president emeritus of Johnson C. Smith University, will present the 2009 William G. and Rose M. Mays Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture. Throughout the day, WUEV will air several of Dr. King's historic speeches.

The day's schedule is as follows:

• 11:30 a.m. "Living History," presented by Black Student Union, Shanklin Theatre
• 1:00 p.m. 21st Annual Re-enactment of the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington D.C., departs from Carson Center and ends at C.K. Newsome Center in downtown Evansville
• 6:30 p.m. African-American Choral Ensemble, Neu Chapel
• 7:00 p.m. William G. and Rose M. Mays Martin Luther King Jr. Lectureship, Dorothy C. Yancy, Neu Chapel

Aces' Place Continues to Grow

Aces' Place, the University of Evansville's online community for students accepted for Fall 2009, continues to grow. 300 prospective UE freshmen have joined Aces' Place and are making it their own.

On Aces' Place, a private online community for prospective UE students, students can blog, post photos and videos, ask questions, and meet people with similar - and not so similar - interests. Several current UE students are on Aces' Place to answer your questions about attending the University of Evansville.

Forum discussion topics include Road Trip, Study Abroad, Band Geeks, Favorite Movies, and How do I Make my College Choice.

Nine UE Basketball Games Available for Internet Viewing

UE fans will now be able to watch five men's and four women's road basketball contests this year on AcesTV, thanks to a partnership between UE, Internet provider ICS, Jump TV, and Missouri Valley Conference schools. AcesTV is the Internet home for live video streaming at the University of Evansville and is available at gopurpleaces.com.

Pay-per-view ($5.95), monthly ($9.95), and yearly ($59.95 for all sports) subscription packages for AcesTV are available. Fans can subscribe by clicking the AcesTV link at gopurpleaces.com.

Road Trip 2009 - February 20-22

Road Trip is rapidly approaching. Plans are well underway for this year's event. Sample activities include:

• Mock Academic Classes
• NCAA Division I Men's Basketball ESPN Bracketbuster game

The cost to attend Road Trip is $75 for those who ride the bus to campus and $35 for those who drive or fly to campus. Click here to check routes and pickup times.

FAFSA Incentive Grant

Students who file the 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) between January 1 and March 10, 2009, and have their results sent to UE will receive a $500 FAFSA Incentive Grant (UE's code 001795). Students receiving a full-tuition scholarship or any athletics scholarship are ineligible for this grant.
