International Student Information

Why does a liberal arts and sciences university in the Midwestern United States place such a value on its international students? The University wants to expose students to new ideas and new people and to expand their world view. Inviting quality students from around the world to study here is one way to accomplish that goal.

Once on campus, international students are welcomed into the mainstream of University life, with the help of the Office of International Student Services and Activities. The entire University benefits from their presence. Imagine, for example, how enhanced a classroom discussion about pollution might be when the students involved are from Denver, Colorado; Caracas, Venezuela; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Friendships at the global level come easily in Moore Hall. It has become known as the International House, and it is open to all American and international students who enjoy a cosmopolitan environment. A different country is showcased each week through student presentations, food, and music.

The Host Family program matches international students with families in our community. The purpose of this program is to foster international friendship and understanding, while introducing international students and scholars to the hospitality, diversity, and spontaneity of American life. Although this is not a homestay program, students and host families gather on a regular basis so that both the student and the American family can learn from each other.

Another place international students and American students mix is in the International Students Club (ISC). It is one of the oldest organizations on campus and sponsors annual festivals such as the International Bazaar and the International Banquet, trips, and other social events.
