Students/General Questions
- What services does the Dean of Students office provide?
Among many things, our office is a place to voice your worries and concerns as a student, a place to help you get on the right path as you make mistakes throughout your college experience, and a place to help you connect with your faculty when life may get in the way of classes.
- What are my rights if I am accused of a Code of Conduct violation?
As Outlined in Section 5 of the Student Handbook, due process is as follows:

Alleged violators, in accordance with due process, will have the following rights:
(1) The right to be faced by one’s accuser
(2) The right to have charges against one given in writing 72 hours prior to the hearing, which will be evidenced by the initiating agent statement
(3) The right to a hearing
(4) The right to have witnesses speak on one’s behalf
(5) The right to appeal the decision of that hearing to a higher level
(6) In the case of alleged sexual misconduct, please refer to the Sexual Misconduct Section of this handbook for both procedure and due process information

- How do I check/refill my Acebucks?
While our office does not handle Meal Plans, more information can be found at Plan Changes, Checking Balances, and Adding Ace Bucks.
- How do I withdraw from the University?
In order to complete your withdrawal request, you will need to contact the office of Academic Services. To make this request, please email academicservices@evansville.edu.
Please note, you are required to consult with Student Financial Services (812-488-2364) and Academic Services (812-488-2895) before withdrawing.
Additional services that are strongly recommended:

- How do I sign up for Harlaxton?
While our office does not process Harlaxton requests, you can find more information on the Harlaxton Website.
- I need to miss class. How do I receive an official excused absence?

- What happens if I am placed on academic probation?

- My friend is having a really hard time and I have noticed changes in their behavior (mood, eating habits, class attendance, etc.). I am worried about them. How do I help?
If you are concerned about a friend, there are several resources you can connect to on campus including Residence Life, the Dean of Students office, and Counseling Services. In fact, talking about your concerns with Counseling Services can be one of the best ways to help! Counselors can send anonymous outreaches on your behalf to your friends/peers/roommates to introduce them to services and offer a chance to meet with one of the counselors. At the same time, you will also be able to access the support and services offered by the counselors.
If you would like to learn more about how to have tough conversations with your friends and family about mental health concerns, Mental Health First Aid is an affordable, 1-day program that teaches skills and language to support someone during difficult moments in life. Much like First Aid teaches how to provide care and support in a physical emergency, Mental Health First Aid equips you with the tools to feel calm and confident when addressing mental health concerns and crises.
- If an incident happens off-campus involving UE students, can charges be brought under the Code of Student Conduct?
Yes, they can be.
- What do I do if I am ill or have a family emergency during the semester and may miss several classes and/or deadlines?
We always recommend working with faculty first and foremost for excused absences. University policy allows our office to issue official excused absences for significant medical or personal reasons, such as emergency hospitalization of a student, funerals, jury duty, or certain emergencies involving immediate family members. If you think your absences may prevent you from completing the semester, you may need to consider dropping a course, withdrawing, or taking a medical leave of absence. If you are contemplating these options, we recommend having a discussion with your Academic Advisor.
- What should I do if I am having conflicts with a professor?
First, make sure that you have tried to work things out with your professor. If this is not an option, the next step is to contact the chair of the department and your SGA ombudsperson. If you are dissatisfied after these conversations, you might want to file an academic grievance, which is processed with academic affairs.
- Who should I talk to if I am a victim of bias?
This information is available in the Student Handbook. Particularly, Section 7. If you have further questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact our office.
- Who do I talk to if I have a roommate or housing issue?
Residence Life generally handles Roommate and Housing Issues. More information can be found at Living With a Roommate.
Family Member Questions
- My student is in the hospital and cannot communicate with professors, what should I do?
Contact our office and provide as much information as possible. We will be able to excuse their absence and notify their faculty on their behalf.
We have a few options in these kinds of situations. If your student lives on campus and the situation is serious, we can do a wellness check, where we send a Public Safety Officer to visit their room and make sure everything is okay. If it is a non-emergency, we can create a Purple Post which notifies all applicable offices/faculty members to reach out and offer support. Our office specifically can reach out and invite a student to a meeting with the dean or speak to family members about resources and advice they can pass along to their students.
- I received a notification about a Purple Post my student received. What does that mean?
