Why did you choose to study abroad, and why do you recommend it?
Studying abroad has been one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had! I became more independent, made lifelong friendships, and was able to travel to some of the most beautiful places.
How did your time at Harlaxton impact and transform your college career?
Prior to studying at Harlaxton, I was already an independent person, or at least I thought I was. But while I was there, I became even more independent, as I learned to navigate the train lines, bus systems, and the huge city of London. I booked my own hotels and modes of transportation and drastically improved my time management skills, which boosted my confidence in simply being on my own.
What was your favorite thing about Harlaxton?
My favorite thing about Harlaxton was definitely the people. I was only there for a four week summer session, but by the end, the friends I made turned into family. Of course, traveling and seeing all sorts of beautiful places made for an even greater experience, but the trip would not have been the same if it weren’t for the relationships that I built with the students and staff while I was there.
Did you take major-specific classes at Harlaxton? If so, what was unique about them?
I took a Theatre class while at Harlaxton, and I absolutely loved it! Our professor, Wes Grantom, made our class experience one to remember. The experiential learning days involved attending plays in London, including Cabaret, The Play that Goes Wrong, and Mnemonic, and we also traveled to Shakespeare’s hometown, Stratford Upon Avon, to watch the play As You Like It and tour the town.
What were some countries/landmarks you visited while abroad?
I visited the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, which was probably the most beautiful place I had ever been to, and stayed in a small town next to the cliffs called Liscannor. We met some friendly locals and ended up spending the weekend with them, which made the experience even better! I also visited Edinburgh, Scotland as well as several places in Italy, including Rome, Pisa, Pompeii, and Positano.
