UE Students Invited to Participate in Global Work Seminar

Posted: Friday, October 12, 2012

The Tri-State World Trade Network (TSWTN), a program supported by The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, in conjunction with the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville, will hold an event, “Preparing Students for Global Work,” on Thursday, October 18, in USI’s Carter Hall. The event will help students prepare for employment with global companies by looking at what it’s like to live abroad and the key qualities to successfully working in a global marketplace. Information will also be provided on internships available with global companies.

To register, UE students should submit their resumes through UE JobLink by the end of the day today. This secure registration and guarantees their resumes will be included in the resume book given to representatives from Berry Plastics, Mead Johnson, PCI/Skanska, Red Spot, SABIC, and Toyota.

“This event is an opportunity to demonstrate support by local industry and the Tri-State World Trade Network for transitioning Southern Indiana's educated talent into the global workforce,” said Luann Sievern, chair of the TSWTN and associate director of technology application at Mead Johnson Nutrition. “It will build an awareness of local, national, and global opportunities within some of the Tri-State's leading companies.”

The day will consist of two sessions beginning at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with time for questions following each session. The first session includes a presentation by keynote speaker Wayne Quigley, formerly of Bristol-Myers Squibb and Mead Johnson Nutrition’s international operations. He will discuss his career path that led to working globally and his experiences working overseas. Quigley, a retired senior executive, has lived and worked abroad and has more than 30 years of experience leading and building integrated business divisions throughout Europe and Asia. In addition, representatives from Mead Johnson and Red Spot Paint will discuss the global footprint and typical jobs of their companies.

The second session will consist of a panel of six companies — Berry Plastics, Mead Johnson, PCI/Skanska, Red Spot, SABIC, and Toyota — describing their internship programs and available internships, particularly those with global dimensions, as well as what students need to do to secure an internship.

The program, applicable to students in all majors, is free and open to the public, and will include students from UE, USI, and Ivy Tech Community College.

The Tri-State World Trade Network promotes exporting and international trade in the Tri-State by sponsoring educational activities, programs and events designed to increase knowledge, promote understanding and encourage participation in international trade.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. For additional information, contact the Institute for Global Enterprise in Indiana at 812-488-2455 or globalindiana@evansville.edu, or Lydia Johnson, business services manager at The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, at 812-425-8147.
