Assistant/Associate Professor of Art of Painting
The Department of Art at the University of Evansville is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor, tenure-track position in Painting to join our creative academic community, starting fall 2025. The scope of the position involves teaching undergraduate level courses in Painting and foundation courses in our BFA, BA in Studio Art and the Art Education and Art Therapy programs. Position will mentor and academically advise students within the department. In addition to teaching a 3/2 load, the successful candidate will supervise and maintain studios within the Krannert Hall of Art and Music. They are expected to be a good colleague that works to expand the mission of the department and university.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching introductory through advanced painting courses across all mediums, including both oil and watercolor.
- Delivering a balanced course load of 3/2, with potential teaching areas in 2D Design, Life Drawing, and Art History.
- Serving as an academic advisor to students majoring in studio art, art education, and art therapy.
- Engaging in curriculum development and actively contributing to the growth of departmental offerings.
- Building and nurturing strong connections with the local and regional fine arts community to create opportunities for students and the university.
- Contributing to departmental, school, and university-wide service initiatives.
The successful candidate will also mentor students, helping them develop their artistic and professional skills, and contribute to maintaining and enhancing our studio facilities.
- Teach Oil Painting each semester
- Teach Watercolor in the fall semester
- Teach 2D Design in the fall semester
- Teach Life Drawing or Art History in the spring semester
Qualifications:
- MFA in Painting, with demonstrated expertise in both oil and watercolor mediums.
- A minimum of 3 years of college-level teaching experience (adjunct experience may be considered).
- A strong exhibition record and a commitment to professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the department’s mission and the university’s values of community engagement.
