Introduction

"[O]ur job is to produce better writers, not better writing."Stephen North, "The Idea of a Writing Center"

Whether you're struggling to define your topic, trying to make an outline, or revising a draft of your paper, the writing tutors will work with you to help you clarify what you're trying to say and improve the focus, organization, and mechanics of your paper.

One of the tutors' most valuable roles is to act as knowledgeable and impartial readers and help you improve your comfort level as well as your writing skills. Although the tutors will be happy to help you edit your paper, you are responsible for doing the work. You cannot drop off your paper for proofreading and pick it up later. Our purpose is to help you help yourself to become a better writer, not to do your work for you. Although you are welcome to drop in at any time, appointments are encouraged so that you can have more thorough, less rushed help. Writing tutors are available during scheduled hours of operation.
