Dr. Powless earned his PhD in counseling psychology with a concentration in sport and performance psychology from Indiana University. His research interests pertain to sport and performance psychology, college student and student-athlete mental health, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. More specifically, Dr. Powless is interested in how adverse childhood experiences effect the mental health of college students and student-athletes as well as the mechanisms underlying expertise development in students, athletes, and other performers. He completed his doctoral internship at Illinois State University where he took part in the Sport Psychology and Eating Disorder rotation areas. Currently, Dr. Powless is a licensed psychologist in the state of Indiana and maintains a private practice in sport and performance psychology where he works with athletes and other performers (e.g., business professionals, musicians, etc.) addressing both mental skills and mental health concerns. Prior to coming to the University of Evansville, Dr. Powless was an Assistant Professor at University of Southern Indiana for three years. Before attending graduate school full-time, he was an Assistant Wrestling Coach for the Indiana University wrestling team for three years.
