Lead Groundskeeper

The University of Evansville is recruiting for a Lead Groundskeeper to assist in keeping the University campus a clean, neat, and attractive environment. The Lead Groundskeeper provides maintenance and care for University's grounds and operates heavy lawn maintenance equipment. 

General Job Description:

1. Leads the work or groundskeepers in performance of grounds maintenance duties
2. Mows, trims, plants, rakes, edges, waters and fertilize, trees, bushes, grass, etc.
3. Removes trash from outdoor receptacles
4. Operates and maintains heavy lawn equipment
5. Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

This position requires the ability to read, write, and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be required. Requires a valid Indiana drivers license. Requires state of IN pesticide Applicator License in Categories 3A (trees and ornamentals) and 3B (Turfgrass) international society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist.

Requires the complete knowledge of horticulture and landscape practices including installation, pruning, planting, pest control and irrigation. Knowledge of and ability to manage DI athletic facilities. Needs to have knowledge of Applicable state, federal and local laws/regulations governing pesticides, common and hazardous waste management and disposal, EPA and OSHA regulations. 

Physical and Mental Effort:

  • Reads and applies O&M manuals for facilities and grounds equipment
  • Diagnoses trouble situations and resolves
  • Able to work at heights and restricted spaces
  • Able to handle loads up to 50lbs
  • Frequently works in extreme high/low temperatures

Other Information:

  • Mon-Friday 7am - 4pm
  • Occasional overtime in response to emergency or weather related situations
  • Travel usually limited to campus area or local material suppliers
