Evansville Promise Neighborhood Grant Accountant

Overview of Position

The Evansville Promise Neighborhood (EPN) is a collaborative initiative between the University of Evansville, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, E-REP, The Dream Center, Ivy Tech Community College and more, to provide cradle to career wrap around services for the children and families in the EPN. The EPN consists of twelve census tracts and six schools. EPN partners will deliver evidence-based services as part of a comprehensive cradle to career service pipeline. The Grant Accountant will provide oversight of college grants from award to close-out, to include federal, state, local, and private awards that support EPN programs and activities. This position ensures that grant awards are used in accordance with government, program and University regulations and requirements.

Employees in this position are expected to utilize a high level of organizational, communication and critical thinking skills in addition to independent judgment in making decisions within the realm of their responsibilities. This position reports to the EPN Director and consults with the EVSC Grant Manager, Program Directors, administrators, and support staff in all areas of interpretation, performance, and fiscal responsibility as they relate to grants, as well as liaison to the grantor/agency officer as warranted.

Minimum Education:

  •  Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, Master’s preferred.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  •  3-5 years of relevant experience, including the ability to take reports from multiple partners and compile them into one useful data set.
  •  Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and develop budgets while adhering to required internal and external policies and procedures. Experience in working collaboratively with various groups including senior administrators, staff, faculty, federal and state officials, and community stakeholders.
  •  An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Essential Functions:

  •  Conducts post-award services until grant close-out while maintaining a thorough understanding of a wide variety of grants, agencies, and government guidance documents in compliance with federal, state and funding agency guidelines.
  •  Provides pertinent information to program staff and administrators on regulations, policies, and processes of both the grantor and the University. Sets up a comprehensive implementation plan for awarded grants to ensure implementation of promised activities and to meet program outcomes.
  •  Analyzes and maintains comprehensive information and guidance manual for program director of each new grant award and facilitate a grant kick-off meeting. Schedules, plans, facilitates, and attends grant program and administrative meetings. Participates in informative/directive webinars and conference calls.
  •  Collaborates and assists Program Directors, Administrators, and other staff throughout the grant to ensure legal and ethical grant implementation as well as ongoing grant related program, financial and administrative functions.
  •  Coordinates and assists program staff to ensure the timeliness, content, and professional quality of hard copy, electronic and/or online grant reporting.
  •  Assists in monitoring the timely expenditure of funds and address discrepancies and concerns with grant program director and administrator.
  •  Evaluates and performs necessary budget tracking and procurement inquiries in database operating system. Establishes spread sheets for the purposes of organizing data and for budget tracking. Maintains budget and performance tracking tools for use by grant Program Directors and staff.
  •  With approval from the EPN Director as time permits, support grant accounting, reporting, and general accounting administration at the office as new opportunities arise.

  •  Ability to clearly articulate the mission of the EPN
  •  Strong interpersonal, verbal and writing skills
  •  Knowledge of grant management policies and procedures, including budget, personnel management, and reporting as well as applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  •  Ability to manage multiple on-going projects at one time
  •  Ability to prepare forms and reports using standardized formats
  •  In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the University
  •  Ability to perform complex administrative analysis with only general supervision
  •  Strong diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills
  •  Excellent coordination and communication skills used to support the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the University
  •  Ability to plan and manage own workflow, priorities, and results accomplishment
  •  Requires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levels
  •  Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e., Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems
  •  Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
