Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Orchestra
The University of Evansville Music Conservatory is inviting applications for a full-time, 10-month tenure-track position as Director of Orchestral Activities at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will possess a Doctorate (ABD considered) and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of strings, orchestral winds, and percussion. University teaching experience is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conducting: Lead the University Orchestra and String Ensemble in rehearsals and performances.
- String Area Coordination: Oversee the string area of the Music Conservatory, ensuring comprehensive and effective instruction.
- Artist-in-Residence Coordination: Manage the string quartet artist-in-residence program, coordinating educational services and collaborations.
- Recruitment: Actively engage in recruitment efforts, with a strong emphasis on recruiting string majors for the Music Conservatory.
- Additional Teaching: Teach additional courses based on the candidate’s qualifications and the needs of the department.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Music (ABD may be considered).
- Comprehensive knowledge of strings, orchestral winds, and percussion.
- University teaching experience is desired but not required.
- Demonstrated success in conducting and orchestral leadership.
