Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication

The Department of Communication at the University of Evansville invites applications for a full-time, 10-month faculty position with a specialization in Journalism or Strategic Communication to begin in August 2025. This is a renewable, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate program by teaching courses in journalism, strategic communication, media ethics, media writing and communication theory, as well as developing curriculum that reflects the evolving landscape of media and generative AI. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The candidate is expected to teach 18–21 credit hours (6–7 courses); teaching undergraduate courses in journalism, strategic communication, and related areas. 
  • Conduct and publish original research in the fields of journalism or strategic communication.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and mentor students, including supervising undergraduate projects. 
  • Contribute to curriculum development, particularly in the areas of media strategy, media literacy and generative AI.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
  • Engage in community outreach and foster relationships with media industries and nonprofit sectors.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, or a closely related field (ABD considered) by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level.
  • A strong research agenda with the potential for peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
  • Expertise in journalism and strategic communication with a focus on emerging media.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both teaching and research.
  • Experience in media industries such as news industry, public relations, or strategic communication is preferred.
