Introduction

DESIGN THINKING FOR DEEPER STUDENT LEARNING

Sunday, November 13 - Wednesday, November 16
Registration for this event has closed.

The University of Evansville's Center for Innovation & Change is creating the UE Innovation Academy, in partnership with the Henry Ford Learning Institute, and made possible by the Ball Venture Fund.

The Henry Ford Learning Institute is an innovation learning leader that partners with organizations dedicated to cultivating equitable learning, thriving, and leading. Through immersive learning-by-doing experiences, they guide participants to design scalable strategies for real world impact.

The UE Innovation Academy’s mission is to take design thinking directly to students by empowering their educators with the tools they need to surface ideas from young people. By training Innovation Coordinators, the academy aims to build a strong network of engaged and trained master educators.

Working individually and in small teams, participants will work on a specific, community-connected challenge to gain knowledge, skills, and experience with Design Thinking. They will also explore available resources and develop a plan of action they can bring back to their home school for immediate benefit.

Designed for educators new to Design Thinking, this workshop provides the opportunity to:

  • Learn the principles, methods and mindsets of Design Thinking and Deeper Learning By Doing
  • Collaborate on a deep dive design challenge that includes fieldwork in the community
  • Explore ways to build Design Thinking and Deeper Learning by Doing into classroom or school activities and extended projects
  • Engage one-on-one with HFLI’s expert coaches to develop challenge-as-opportunity project plans for students or colleagues
  • Gain access to HFLI’s comprehensive set of ready-to-use curricula and resources
  • Earn an HFLI Design Thinking Level 2 Certification (optional, additional $60)

HFLI’s approach, Deeper Learning By Doing, brings Design Thinking together with high leverage instructional practices and culturally responsive principles to form an approach to learning, teaching, and leading that advances equity and empowerment.
